905 E. 2nd Street
LOS ANGELES, May 19, 2017 – Cushman & Wakefield announced today that Father’s Office, a Los Angeles institution, will open at The Garey Building, a 320-unit apartment community in the burgeoning Arts District in downtown Los Angeles. Renowned chef Sang Yoon signed a 15-year lease for a prominent, 5,100-square-foot corner location with indoor and outdoor dining on The Garey’s pedestrian paseo for the third outpost of his popular gastropub.
The Garey Building is a joint venture between Lowe Enterprises, Megatoys, which has owned the property for more than 20 years, and institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management. Cushman and Wakefield’s Matthew Fainchtein and Carter Magnin are the commercial leasing brokers for The Garey Building and represented the landlord and tenant in the transaction.
Located at 905 E. 2nd Street, The Garey Building is set on 2.9 acres east of Alameda Street between 1st and 2nd Streets. The property, developed by Lowe and institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management and opened in July 2016, features two five-story buildings flanking a 50-foot-wide pedestrian paseo that features 15,800 square feet of commercial space that will offer a variety of restaurants, cafes and retail establishments. The mixed-use community boasts a rooftop lounge and numerous outdoor spaces in a vibrant neighborhood filled with shops, restaurants, theatres, and galleries. Its prime location is adjacent to Metro Gold Line and within close proximity to the new Regional Connector.
“Father’s Office has broad appeal with its casual atmosphere and American cuisine featuring its renowned office burger that regularly makes LA’s ‘best of’ lists. It’s an ideal fit for The Garey Building’s ground floor restaurant and retail array that serves both our residents and the neighboring community,” said Tom Wulf, senior vice president, Lowe.
According to Chef Sang Yoon, this expansion of his Father’s Office concept to downtown Los Angeles is scheduled to open in fall 2017. Yoon debuted Father’s Office in 2000 when he took over the local dive bar in Santa Monica of the same name, creating the iconic “Office Burger” and venerable craft beer program, and trailblazed the gastropub movement across the US in the nearly two decades since. Father’s Office Culver City opened in 2008 to continued critical and popular acclaim at the historic Helm’s Bakery complex followed by an additional two restaurants, Lukshon (Culver City) and Two Birds One Stone (Napa Valley).
